Vila OribaRio de Janeiro

Capacity

A whole villa for four to nine.

Four suites, each with its own bathroom, a 100 m² living room open to the ocean and a private heated 8 × 2.5 m pool. With four, everyone has their own bedroom and bathroom; with nine, nobody sleeps on a sofa. The house is yours, from morning coffee facing the islands to the last swim of the night.

The house is built on several levels linked by stairs: worth knowing for toddlers and anyone with reduced mobility.

A house, not a condominium

Vila Oriba is a detached house with its own garden: nobody lives above you, no building doorman turns your friends away, there are no condominium rules, and no owners' meeting can ban short-term rentals three weeks before your stay — which, in Rio, is now happening to apartments and penthouses in Ipanema and Leblon.

Your guests are welcome. You may have day visitors, for the pool or lunch, if you let us know 24 hours ahead with a copy of their ID, up to ten people in the house in total (nine beds, ten at the table). No parties and no extra overnight guests: the house is rented for a maximum of nine people.

And what we don't have: you are not within walking distance of Ipanema. Leblon is five minutes by taxi (R$70), Vidigal beach a seven-minute walk.

Babies, children, mobility

Two cots are available on request, in addition to the nine places. The house is welcoming for children — the garden, the lit pool, the foosball table — but it is built on several levels linked by stairs, and the walk up from Vidigal square takes seven minutes, uphill. With a pushchair it is a workout; with children who walk, it is a stroll. Guests aged 77 have managed it easily, and a moto-taxi comes right up to the door for R$10 if you are loaded with bags.

The questions we get asked

How many people can Vila Oriba sleep?

Nine guests, in four independent spaces each with its own private bathroom: a sea-view suite with a 160 cm bed, a garden suite with a 200 cm bed, a twin suite whose two single beds can be joined into a 180 cm bed, and a split-level studio with a 140 cm double bed upstairs and a 90 cm single bed downstairs. Two cots are available on request in addition to those nine places.

Can four people rent the villa with a bedroom and bathroom each?

Yes. Each of the four spaces has its own door and its own private bathroom: with four, everyone has their own bedroom and bathroom, for $172.50 per person per night.

Is it the whole house or shared rooms?

The whole house. You are the only group on site: the 100 m² living room, the kitchen, the garden and the 8 × 2.5 metre pool are shared with nobody. A caretaker couple lives in separate quarters and looks after maintenance and security.

How much does a villa in Rio for 9 people with a pool and sea view cost?

Vila Oriba rents for $690 a night (about €620) for the whole house, outside Christmas, New Year, Carnival and major events. With nine guests that is $77 per person per night. The minimum stay is three nights (four at Christmas, New Year and Carnival).

Can we invite friends for the pool or lunch?

Yes, day visitors, if you let us know 24 hours ahead with a copy of their ID, up to ten people in the house in total (nine beds, ten at the table). No parties and no extra overnight guests.

Are there enough bathrooms for nine people?

Yes: four private bathrooms, one per space. None is shared between two bedrooms, which changes everything for a group of eight or nine.

Can we come with babies or young children?

Yes. Two cots are provided on request. The house is built on several levels linked by stairs and the walk up from Vidigal square takes seven minutes, uphill: fine with young children, less practical with a pushchair. A moto-taxi comes right up to the door.

Is the pool private and heated?

Yes. An 8 × 2.5 metre pool, 1.40 m deep, in natural slate, lit at night, edged by an ipê deck, with a frontal view of the ocean and the Cagarras islands. It is shared with no other accommodation and is heated by a heat pump to at least 28 °C all year round.
